More on the origin of the universe and the melding of faith and science
- The Observer-Free Universe Paradox (2025): A significant theoretical finding in late 2025 highlighted a paradox in models that attempt an "objective" description of the entire universe's quantum state without including an observer. The math in some such models implies the universe should have only a single, simple state, incapable of hosting the complexity we observe (stars, black holes, people). This suggests that the concept of "reality" might inherently require an observer's perspective, reinforcing certain modern interpretations of quantum mechanics.
While the atheistic bias of many physicists prevents them from taking the next logical step in this sequence, I am not bound by their siloed cognitions: The Creator of the Universe has been proven to be not just necessary but integral to the reality of our Universe. Without the Creator/Observer, there is NO UNIVERSE as we know it.
As a fan of paradox, I love this particular seminal paradox of the creation of the Universe: Science has proven that without God, there could be no Universe. The division between classical and quantum physics has been a scientific "fact" for nearly a hundred years as physicists attempt to reconcile the laws of classical physics with the weirdness of the probabilistic quantum universe without success.
One of those attempts was multiple repetitions originally performed by Thomas Young in 1801 using light to demonstrate the wave nature of light through an interference pattern. The same experimental setup was later adapted for use with electrons, atoms, and molecules to demonstrate the principles of quantum mechanics, particularly wave-particle duality.
Classical physics failed to explain the outcome: if one slit was present, the beam of (light, atoms, electrons) behaved as a particle and made single mark on the target; it two slits were present, the beam behaved as a wave, making wavelike interference patterns on the target behind the slit.
The quantum observer effect (you get what you expect and measure) caused chaos is the world of classical physics and launched investigations into the weird world of quantum paradoxes where "both/and" were everyday facts of scientific life ("superposition"). All realities were possible until expectations of one possibility led to an observation (measurement). Recent findings in quantum physics, especially in biology and human physiology have extended the reach of quantum realities and action beyond theoretical physics into day to day reality for all of us.
As an expert in leadership with a personal interest in reconciling faith and science, these developments in physics have profound implications beyond the origin of the Universe and the Creator.
First, even at the physical level, you get what you expect to see. The power of expectations on outcomes is wired into the universe. By extension, your positive expectations affect your outcomes, at the quantum level. By the same token, the antidote to depression with it's catatrophic expectations as a sign of the malady, is to learn to have positive expectations of your personal outcomes (and it explains why cognitive behavior therarpy-CBT-with its focus on eliminating negative self talk-is so effective.
Second, as a leader, your expectations for your people have a power ful effect at both the interpersonal and the quantum level. If you expect success, you will get success from your people. If you expect failure, you will most certainly get that too. Success will be different for each person, and your challenge as a leader is to meld all those different victories into a shared vision of success for the organization, to make success a fractal pattern, repeated at each organizational level.
Finally, it is more and more apparent to me that the Universe was created loaded with an infinite number of quantum possible realities for each of us and we were given the power (I will leave out the many relevant Biblical references here) to shape our reality through our beliefs and expectations of the outcome. At the psychological level, what we repeatedly hear (whether we say it or someone else does) programs our brains with expectations at the quantum, not just psychological level. As leaders we need to consistently and constantly speak positive, success talk to ourselves and to those we serve and lead. This is no longer just "feel good" "woowoo" speech. This is how we change our present and our futures at the quantum level. It's the physics of leadership.
Kevin, you are a gifted writer. You blend the technical with the colloquial just as you blend spirituality with science. Your grasp of history allows you to point out the errors of great thinkers such as Stephen Hawking. I review all new books reported in the WSJ and NYT. So many authors are able to highlight the fights (disagreements) among great thinkers of the past....philosophers, theologians, scientists, mathematicians, historians....all fields. I'm hoping you, others and I can co-author books. Cheers, Don
